Washington, D.C. and Maryland

I visited Washington, D.C. during the first weekend of April to see the beginning of the Cherry Blossom Festival and take in the sites of our nation’s capitol. There weren’t many cherry blossoms, but there were a lot of sites, all offering wonderful photographic opportunities.

Sites in D.C. included the Library of Congress, Supreme Court Building, National Archives (which doesn’t allow photos), Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, and numerous monuments and memorials—MLK, FDR, Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, WWII, Korea.

I also made two side-trips. The first was to Annapolis where I shot the state capitol (yet another tiny one), and visited the U.S. Naval Academy. The second was to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy campus where I saw some of the planes/spacecraft I admired as a child such as the Blackbird, Space Shuttle, and Concorde.

Now that I realize I have a number of fellow MIT alumni in the area, I’ll be visiting the area more frequently!
