My cousin, Preston, popped the question to his girlfriend, Brittney, earlier this year; so, while I was visiting Dallas, we did an engagement shoot. The shoot happened to coincide with the conclusion of a visit to a museum with my siblings and nieces, thus it was a family affair! Emma, my oldest–7 years old–niece was my self-proclaimed assistant. Like any good assistant, she did a wonderful job of staying out of the way… Over the past year or so I have come to realize that I need to see more of Dallas. So much has changed since I lived there that I sometimes feel like a tourist in my hometown! Fortunately, Tes (my sister-in-law) was an excellent location scout. The shoot took place at Tes’ alma mater, Southern Methodist University (SMU). My brother and sister also helped, keeping the mood light (e.g. joking at, and sometimes with, Preston and Brittney) and offering ideas for shots and poses. In fact, the shot of Preston jumping is one of Lew’s ideas. (In case you are wondering, those are Cole Haan shoes–my favorite brand.) All said, we had a great shoot. We started around 7:35 PM Dallas time and ended just before sunset around 8:35 PM. I was concerned about the lighting toward the end of the shoot, but ISO for most of the images was at or under 1600. Have I mentioned how much I love my 5D Mark III and its ability to gobble up light!? I’m looking forward to shooting the wedding in October. As usual, a selection of photos from the shoot is below.
